The Sprint Car Hub story
I'm Toby Bellbowen - a former Sprint Car driver from Sydney, Australia and the sole person behind Sprint Car Hub.
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a Sprint Car driver. A really good one. After racing go-karts from the age of 7, I first drove a Sprint Car when I was 15 up until I was forced to stop due to being diagnosed with glaucoma - an eye disease commonly found in older people where vision is lost due to damage to the optic nerve - when I was just 22 years young.
Once I stopped racing, I was then asked to be a colour-commentator at my local track - Valvoline Raceway - which I really enjoyed because it meant I was still a part of the sport.
It was during this time that I realised a couple of things;
1. There are SO many passionate Sprint Car fans from all over the world, but there was a real absence of insight for not only them, but even just the public in general. Whether that be in regards to understanding the drivers mindsets, driving styles, team dynamics, the logistics side, track evolution, or even car technology, no one was taking the time to properly explain our amazing sport.
2. I am still very passionate about the sport.
As cliche as it may sound, I’m a big believer that everything happens for a reason and I didn’t want my story to be any different. I felt that everything I had learnt and experienced from my racing days could be used for the benefit of others. From growing up watching my dad and brother race, racing myself both locally and internationally, working on cars, travelling with teams, wrecking, washing, and fixing cars - all of that and more could come to use for the benefit of others.
And so after 3 years of wondering how I could contribute, I created Sprint Car Hub
I wouldn’t call myself an expert, and Sprint Car Hub is not about me. Instead, I see myself as a life-long fan who wants to show anyone and everyone all about Sprint Car racing. I feel that with my personal experiences and enthusiam for the sport that I was in the perfect position to provide what fans are missing out on. Through the Sprint Car Hub videos, posts, merchandise and whatever else, the aim is to make you feel a part of the sport and enjoy sprint car racing more than you would without us.
Thank you for reading and thanks for supporting Sprint Car Hub.
